One of my favorite events on the track is the 4x100 meter relay. It requires individual athleticism but even more so group effort and trust. The major aspect of the relay of course is the exchange using a method called a blind hand off. You place a mark to set yourself and another mark behind you for your partner. when they hit that mark you take off. As your arms swing back, on the third pump you reach back palm up and pray the baton gets there fractions of a second after. This whole exchange can be the difference between a close victory, an even closer defeat, or worse the embarrassment that comes with being disqualified because you dropped the baton.
I got to tackle this podcast with two other people and like any team we had to get used to each other's attributes in order to make it work. We had to learn each others tones, comfortably with speaking, and experience with these kinds of assignments. All of which played a tone in how the organization of the podcast developed. Thankfully, we didn't drop the baton on this one and finished on what I can only say is a solid sounding podcast. On how your experiences have value no matter how the begin or conclude. Give it a listen for yourself, but brace for more Track & Field |

This podcast assignment was actually one of the more fun projects I’ve had in awhile. Not only did it give me the opportunity to explore new resources it gave me the opportunity to do one of my favorite things: talk… for a long time. It also allowed me to refamiliarize myself with programs I hadn't used in a while such as Garage Band which I had fun using to compose an intro and outro sequence. I had to incorporate some changes to my original essay in order to fill in the time I talked for. For example, I provided a lot of context and dialogue in the podcast that wasn't included in my essay which included details that I added to answer questions or rabbit trails I went down; though I tried my best to stay on topic. My tone also became much more casual since I was now telling a story rather than writing an academic paper. But even the paper was different than previous papers, since this was a personal narrative rather than an analytical paper. My personal narrative was somewhat more casual, linear and descriptive detail oriented rather than making claims and supporting them. I also feel that I was writing with a bit more confidence than the other essays because this was my story rather than having to analyze someone else’s story, make a thesis, and defend said thesis. This project did not come without challenges though. Working in a group caused a few bumps in the road starting with trying to find a coherent message between our three narratives. Even though we were able to come up with a common theme between our messages, albeit a very loose one, there were still other challenges that caused some nerves or just straight up awkwardness. Of course there was the initial inelegance of first impressions when trying to start a project with people you barely know the names of which, again, we got over pretty quickly. Then there was the matter of trying to figure out how to do the podcast itself. I’ve actually done podcast assignments before for a history class in high school, and because I was pretty good friends with the people in my group it felt easy to share thoughts and take charge when necessary and truly get some fun, creative and even silly ideas out. This didn’t feel so easy this time around. Many times I hesitated or just stayed quiet when I had ideas because we were either on a time crunch or because I didn't want to come across as too bossy or serious. Thankfully this didn’t stop us from still sharing some good ideas and having fun making a good podcast .I had a lot of fun with this project and wish that I could have another go at it. I’d definitely incorporate something more creative so instead of us just talking it could be like a talk show or radio drama or even just closer to a professional podcast. Either way I hope to do something like this again in the future
